A glitch text generator turns plain words into zalgo text, the creepy, cursed look where marks spill above and below every letter. Type below, pick how cursed you want it, and copy it into a Discord message, a TikTok caption or an X post.
Glitch text is made in your browser and nothing is uploaded. Screen readers read every mark aloud or skip the word, so keep anything important in plain text.
Drag Intensity up for more marks per letter, and switch Up, Middle and Down on and off to choose where they go. Press New glitch for a different roll of the same text.
Intensity at a glance
| Intensity | cursed becomes | Characters |
|---|---|---|
| 1, mild | c͍ͯ͞u̶̜̒r̪̔͞s̳͂͡è̪͟d̫ͤ͝ | 24 |
| 5, creepy | c̴̸̙̩̥ͯ͗ͨu̸̺̪͔̻͓̽r̪͇̖͙͗͛̽̕͟s̱̞̻͒͒̏ͭ͞͡e͍̘̘ͨͧ̾͠d̙͋͊ͥ̇ͨ͝ | 53 |
| 9, cursed | c̷̛̥̜̜͖̬ͯ͗ͨ̈̓u̼̬̖͈ͪ͗ͩ͂͡͝͞r̶͖ͮͤ͐̚͞͞ṡ̘̘͓̤̝̱͒͋̔͊ͨͧ͘͠͠e̴̶͚̮ͨ͑̃̃͒̋͟d͈͕͎͓̘̊ͬ́̐͂̎͒͡ | 77 |
At each intensity every letter gets between one and that many marks above and below, and up to a third as many through the middle, picked at random.
Up, middle and down
Each switch adds marks from a different set of Unicode combining marks.
| Marks go | What they are | cursed at intensity 4 |
|---|---|---|
| Up | Accents, tildes, carons and tiny letters that sit above the letter | c͐ͯ̚uͨ̈̓r̒s̅̄e̽̔͒̓d͗ͩ͂ͬ |
| Middle | Strokes and slashes through the letter, and ties that span two letters | c̸͝u͞͠r̸s̷e̛d͢ |
| Down | Cedillas, dots and lines under the letter | c̳̬͚u͍̠̩r̩s̜̜e̬̪̺̪d̻͓̯͖ |
Up and down make the tall, dripping look. Middle crosses letters out, so a lot of it makes the text hard to read at any intensity; it is the one to switch off first if the result is too messy.
How to use it
- Type or paste your text. Line breaks are kept, and spaces stay clean so the words stay apart.
- Set Intensity: 1 to 3 for a subtle glitch that stays readable, 7 and up for full zalgo.
- Choose Up, Middle and Down, and press New glitch until you like the roll.
- Tap Copy and paste it wherever you want it.
How glitch text works
Every mark this generator uses comes from one Unicode block, Combining
Diacritical Marks (U+0300 to U+036F). A combining mark has no width. Your
phone draws it on top of, through or under the character before it, which is
how e followed by U+0301 becomes é.
Unicode sets no limit on how many marks can follow one letter. Stack ten and the renderer draws them one above another, climbing out of the line. That is all zalgo text is: your letters, each followed by a pile of marks. There is no font involved, which is why it keeps its look when you paste it.
The generator skips a handful of marks in that block on purpose. Four of them are duplicates Unicode keeps for old software, which an app could quietly swap for their twins when it tidies the text, and one is invisible.
Where glitch text goes wrong
- Screen readers. Every mark is read out by name, so one glitched word can take a screen reader half a minute. Keep names, links and anything important in plain text.
- Character limits. Each mark is a character.
cursedat intensity 9 is 77 characters, not 6, so glitch text fills a bio or a post limit fast. The count above the output shows the real length; check a longer piece with the Word Counter. - Clipped marks. Some apps cut off marks that reach into the line above or below, or cap how many marks a letter can have. If the result looks tamer after pasting, the app trimmed it.
- Search. The marks sit between the letters, so searching for the plain word may not find the glitched one.

Common questions
What is zalgo text?
Zalgo text, also called glitch text or cursed text, is ordinary text with dozens of accent marks piled onto every letter, so the marks climb above the line and drip below it. It is named after Zalgo, a creepy internet meme whose captions were written this way. The letters underneath are still the ones you typed.
How does a glitch text generator work?
Unicode has combining marks: accents, dots, tildes and strokes that have no width of their own and draw on the letter before them. A letter can take any number of them, so the generator adds a random handful after each letter. Because the result is ordinary characters rather than an image or a font, it keeps its look when you copy and paste it.
Can I use glitch text on Discord, TikTok, Instagram or X?
Mostly yes. Copy it and paste it into a message, caption, bio or post. Discord and X usually show it as it looks here. Some apps limit or strip combining marks in usernames and display names, and some chats clip marks that reach into the line above, so a lower intensity is the safer choice for a name.
Why does the same text give a different glitch each time?
The marks are picked at random. Typing keeps the current roll, so the letters you have already typed keep their marks, and New glitch picks a fresh set for the same text and settings. Nothing is random about the letters themselves; only which marks go on them.
Is there a limit on how long glitch text can be?
Yes. The generator glitches the first 1,000 characters and keeps the whole result under 6,000, sharing marks evenly across the letters when a long text would go over. Every mark counts as a character, so glitch text uses up a post or bio limit several times faster than plain text.
Is glitch text bad for accessibility?
Yes. A screen reader reads every mark aloud, one at a time, or gives up on the word, so a glitched sentence turns into a long list of accent names. Keep anything someone needs to read, such as your name, links and instructions, in plain text, and use glitch text for a decorative word.
Is anything I type here sent to a server?
No. The marks are added in your browser and the text box is not submitted anywhere. The site records that the tool was used, how many characters went in and which settings were on, so we know which tools are worth building next. The text itself is never part of that.
