coding.kitty started from a simple frustration: most programming explanations assume you already understand the thing being explained. So we make the version we wanted when we were starting out. Short, plain-language, one idea at a time, and impossible to take too seriously when there is a cat in the corner of the frame.
It has since grown past the videos. There is a community voting on what gets covered next, and a run of free remote hackathons and challenges that anyone can enter. The videos and the events stay free.
What we make
Paw-sized videos
One concept per video, explained without the jargon, on Instagram, TikTok and YouTube. It's literally a cat explaining things to you.
A community that decides
Topics get suggested and voted on by whoever shows up, and the day-to-day chat lives in Discord. The highest-voted ideas are the ones that get made next.
Free remote events
#hackthekitty runs hackathons, CTFs, coding challenges and workshops. Online, free, and open to every skill level.
Free, no strings
Every video and event is free. No paywalls, no sign-ups, and nothing being sold to you. Sponsors and donations are what keep it running.
Who runs it
A very small team, plus everyone who suggests a topic, votes, enters a hackathon or sends us an idea.
